Hurricane Milton Update: What South Dade Needs to Know 🌧️

Hey Neighbor,
We hope you’re staying safe and prepared as Hurricane Milton, a powerful Category 5 storm, approaches Florida. Currently projected to make landfall near Tampa, Milton is a serious storm, and our thoughts are with everyone in its path.
Here in South Dade, we’re under a Tropical Storm Warning. Here’s what you need to know and how you can prepare:
🌪️ Hurricane Milton: The Latest Update
Category: 897mb pressure with 180 MPH max sustained winds and gusts 200+ MPH. This is now the 4th strongest hurricane ever recorded by pressure on this side of the world. The eye is TINY at nearly 3.8 miles wide. This hurricane is nearing the mathematical limit of what Earth's atmosphere over this ocean water can produce.
Expected Landfall: Tampa area, late Wednesday evening (10/9) into Thursday morning (10/10)
South Dade Impact: Tropical storm conditions are expected with gusty winds, heavy rain, and possible power outages. The worst conditions are expected Early Wednesday afternoon

While we’re not in the direct path of Hurricane Milton, it’s still important to be ready:
Secure Loose Items: Make sure outdoor furniture, trash bins, and other loose items are tied down or brought inside.
Check Your Supplies: Stock up on water, batteries, and any essentials in case of short-term power outages.

Power Outage Reporting:To report a power outage to Florida Power & Light (FPL), you can call 1-800-4OUTAGE (1-800-468-8243) or report it online. You can also call this number to report a downed power line
🌧️ What’s Open, What’s Closed
Here’s a quick list of closures and what’s still open in the area:
Schools: All schools in Miami Dade will be closed Wednesday, October 9th.
Grocery Stores: Most stores are open ,but expect higher traffic and limited supplies.
Community Centers: Open as temporary shelters if needed.

Sandbag distribution will continue 10/8 starting at 7 am until supplies run out
