This Week in South Dade: Big Changes, New Openings & Weekend Fun
Hey there, friends!
Hope you're all doing well. This weekend, February 7th to 9th, 2025, we're looking at some lovely weather here in Miami. Expect mostly sunny skies with highs around 81°F (27°C) and lows in the upper 60s to low 70s°F (21-22°C). Perfect for getting out and enjoying what our community has to offer.
Here's what's happening in our neck of the woods:
The weather’s cool, but things are heating up around South Dade! This week, we’re talking about major changes in Kendall, new speed cameras in school zones, more Chick-fil-A, and what’s happening this weekend. Let’s get into it.

Barnes & Noble Kendall May Be Replaced by a Rooms To Go Superstore
Say goodbye to one of the last big bookstores in the area? Barnes & Noble in Kendall might be demolished to make way for one of the largest Rooms To Go stores in the country. The furniture giant has the property under contract and plans to replace the current building with a 51,662-square-foot showroom—way bigger than most of its stores. If all goes as planned, construction could start soon, with a grand opening in mid-2026.

Speed Cameras Coming to School Zones in Miami-Dade
If you tend to hit the gas near school zones, beware—new speed cameras are being installed in 206 locations across Miami-Dade, including Goulds Elementary, Redland Middle, and Devon Aire K-8. Drivers caught going 10+ mph over the speed limit will get a $100 ticket in the mail. These cameras will only be active during school hours, and the county says the fines will help fund school security and public safety programs.

Don Pan Expanding to 184th Street
Craving some Venezuelan bakery favorites? Don Pan is opening a new location near Cutler Ridge/Perrine at 11104 SW 184th St. No official opening date yet, but soon you’ll be able to grab their famous cachitos, tequeños, and arepas in South Dade.

Chick-fil-A Florida City Coming Soon
Another Chick-fil-A is on the way, this time in Florida City. The new location will be on U.S. 1, just south of Palm Drive. Developers are tearing down two old buildings (a former mattress store and a Chinese restaurant) to make way for a fresh new CFA. No opening date yet, but expect more drive-thru lines forming soon.
